Anarchy lovers

dennis_pragerI FIRST ENCOUNTERED Dennis Prager on his television show in the early 1990s when I lived in Houston. Now, however, I keep in touch via his online columns.

Prager is sober and perceptive with a laser-like consistency.

An April 26 column headlined Why the Left Loathes Western Civilization is particularly excellent. You are aware, I hope, that the left does indeed loathe Western Civilization.

As Prager mentions, Stanford University students recently voted down, 1,992 to 347, a proposal to require — as it did until the 1980s — a survey course on Western Civilization.

This is lamentable. It is today’s Democrat Party.

Prager says the left loathes Western Civilization because the left hates standards, rules to play by, which is the very essence of any civilization, the opposite being anarchy.

Leftists dislike standards because with standards comes judgment, and leftists don’t want to be judged. Rules of right and wrong cramp their styles.

They prefer anarchy. In theory, at least. It’s one of those things that has a libertine appeal until it punches you in the face.

Those who believe in nothing are very, very jealous and angry with those who believe in something. — Dennis Prager.

  1. I read that article as well, señor. Always on the lookout for the psychopathology of the new wave extreme leftists that now dominate the political landscape and the network news.

I don’t think this author quite gets it. Simply doesn’t feel right. After all, no one likes to be judged, I suppose. I do appreciate his effort, but it simply falls short. Got to be something more deeply ingrained in those that have come to despise our culture and our heritage.

Me thinks it has much to do with lack of family values and lack of real education in our schools. So many of our citizens have simply taken a pass on acquiring knowledge of our history and don’t have the upbringing to appreciate civility in the political realm.

    1. Mark: Lots of elements form the lamentable leftist mindset, of course. As for nobody wanting to be judged, you are correct. I think conservatives, however, realize it is a necessity even though on an individual basis, it makes everyone squirm.

      Judgment, discrimination. They are necessities.

  2. Luke 6:41

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

  3. 1 John 4:16
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

    Matthew 7:1-7
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

  4. My posts, requiring approval in order to appear in the comments section, had already contained a Biblical verse on judgment some 20 minutes prior to the above post by Andres.

  5. With all due respect, in the the opinion of my great grandfather, a proud Wobbly, and a hater of hypocrisy, libertarians are basically anarchists that lack the balls to live according to their convictions.

    1. Clete: Libertarians are a diverse group. Personally, I follow the traditional conservative school. Low taxes, minimal government, strong military, free markets. It’s not complicated, and I am a simple man.

  6. I used to listen to Dennis for years while commuting in LA. Now I read his Tuesday articles. Very thoughtful.

  7. Obama refers to everyone to his right as bitter clingers, which by itself is very judgmental.

We all cling to our beliefs and discriminate, I just refuse to be bitter.

Life is too short to blow a fuse.
