The liberator

VERY INTERESTING video. Author and filmmaker Laurence Jarvik speaks for an hour on the Trump phenomenon. Among other themes, he points out that Trump is neither Democrat nor Republican but another thing altogether.

Trump is a deprogrammer of the American mind.

  1. It would be positive if Trump did accomplish all that. I find him be an non- politician kind of refreshing. Everyone else interprets that as being arrogant, unpolished and ignorant.
Come on, he didn’t get to where he is by being a doofus. The real problem is that most people nowadays do not have the intellect to discern anything much besides Hollywood celebrities and their stories, causes, and are unable to accept any kind of reasonable non-instigative discussion. I think they haven’t been teaching civics and civility in schools for quite a long time. All you see is emotion and no logic or critical thinking anymore. The PC crap didn’t help in the art of debate, turning everything into “feelings” and causes.
I sincerely hope that Trump can accomplish at least some of his goals.

    1. Tancho: I too find his in-your-face style refreshing, and I wish him well. He’s fun. Though you wouldn’t know it by watching most news sources, he is getting things done. Other things, important ones, are proving difficult due to the GOP establishment’s intransigence. That McCain was the vote that killed the minor version of Obamacare repeal was unpardonable.

  2. Thank you for sharing this video by Laurence Jarvik on the Trump effect and American individualism. There is a great need for deprogramming.

    1. Andrés: Glad you found it interesting. I did, of course. Yes, lots of deprogramming required. Will it get done? Will enough get done? Only the Goddess knows. I am not optimistic.

We could use more of this. Some really good points made here. Like you, Señor Felipe, I am less than optimistic but willing to be wrong.

  4. Well, that was an interesting take on Trump. I don’t agree with all of it for sure. But his points about cult deprogramming were spot on, as were his points about the universities and their battles between biology and English departments.

If nothing else, Trump is forcing everyone to reexamine their opinions of everything and that’s a good thing.

Where we wonder how many people would have time to view that video.

    1. Kim: I, of course, enjoyed the video but at one hour I doubt many people here will sit through it. Just the first half would be better. For me, it started to drag just a hair at the end.
