Those sleazy Republicans

I WAS BORN a Democrat. My parents were politically obsessed Democrats. My sister is one. My daughter is one. Both my ex-wives are Democrats. My grandparents, on both sides, were Democrats too. I was swimming in a Democrat Sea.

I was content with that. It made sense. Until …

I jumped the fence in 2007, but it had been brewing for years due to two things: First, the ballooning effects of Political Correctness back to the early 1990s. Political Correctness is a cultural cancer, the love child of Democrats, not Republicans. Second, the election of Barry Obama, but it was one element of his campaign that kicked me in the teeth.

That element was Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the revelation early in Barry’s 2007 campaign that Barry and Michelle had spent years sitting in a front-row pew of Wright’s anti-American, race-hate church. When Wright’s famous “God damn America” videos came to light early in the campaign, the action was swift and Draconian. Wright disappeared or, perhaps more accurately, was disappeared. Remember that?

It was my “Ah-Ha!” moment.

It was akin to those Stalin photos where political opponents were eliminated from the crowd. Wright was eliminated. And Americans, full of self-righteousness, elected their “first black president,” proving forever that racism was not in their hearts.

Except Obama is not black. He is biracial, as much white as black.

But that’s another, related, issue. America continues to delude itself. The nation still has to elect its first black president. Maybe one day. Likely be a Republican.

For the first time in my life I would have voted Republican. John McCain and Sarah Palin. Alas, some glitch in the absentee voting process kept me from voting that year. I was totally on board with McCain but in doubt about Palin. That has totally reversed. McCain turned out to be a vindictive turncoat, and Palin is a joy to behold.

Love that gal.

Like most Democrats I was largely ignorant of the two parties’ history. I was a newspaper guy! How did that happen? Because I was a newspaper guy. That’s how. The media have been inbred leftists for a long, long time.

And I was one.

But Democrats were the party of slavery, the Klan, Jim Crow, voter suppression and school segregation. Republicans were the party of emancipation, equal rights, school integration and the death of Jim Crow. Republicans today are about liberty and individualism. Democrats are about victimization and heavy-handed government.

Here are two five-minute videos from the great YouTube channel PragerU. The woman speaking is Carol Swain, a Vanderbilt University professor of political science and law. I know you leftists won’t watch because they are “inconvenient truths,” but you conservatives will enjoy them very much. Feel good about yourselves.

No black people

ONE OF THE many changes I encountered on moving to Central Mexico was this:  There are no black people.

Nary a one.

After living in the American South for 98 percent of my life, this was very noticeable. I grew up with blacks, literally. For the first six years of my life, I lived on my grandparents’ farm in southwest Georgia. All of my playmates were black, 100%.

When my family moved to Florida when I was 7, however, schools had not been integrated, so I went completely through public schooling with no black kids in sight. They were on the other side of town in their own schools.

“Separate but equal.” Yeah, sure.

But on joining the Air Force in 1962, I immediately entered an integrated world. My barracks roommate was black, and so were some of my friends.

America changed in the following years, and blacks and whites now live and work together though not always in peace, something that is worsening, unfortunately. This I blame on the Democrat Party and famous black hucksters.

I moved over the border, leaving American racial conflict behind me. There are no black Mexicans in my part of the country. I understand there are some Mexican blacks on the Gulf Coast. Caribbean islands are full of black Latinos.

Statistically, Mexico is about 10 percent white and 90 percent brown. The brown 90 percent is split into 60 percent Mestizo and 30 percent indigenous. You often cannot tell Mestizos and indigenous apart. Their clothing can be a clue.

Often the indigenous speak their own language.

When I say there are no blacks in my part of Central Mexico, I mean Mexicans. I do know of two non-Mexican blacks here. One is half of a biracial couple from Washington D.C. who bought a home here for part-time living. The other is a young black American I’ve spotted now and then for years. I do not know her.

On rare occasion, I see a black tourist on the plaza. They invariably appear to be American. Yes, you can tell. But that’s rare. I guess American blacks prefer other vacation spots.

Maybe Cancún or Cabo.

Mostly, I live in a brown world, and I’m fine with that. I even married one, which I heartily recommend.

(Bet you got a little uncomfortable reading this. Blame political correctness and people who vote left.)
