Quiet on the mountaintop

Looking down thataway too. Very few folks.

Kid I know, 17 years old, who’s a high school dropout. Sad.

WENT DOWNTOWN yesterday afternoon to sit a spell with my Kindle and a hot café Americano negro. There were parking spots all over the place, which is not common, but it’s becoming more common now in the Plague Year.

Usually, I sit alone and read, but yesterday I shared a table with my child bride and her sister who were talking nonstop because that’s what they do. It’s a marvel. Hours can pass, and they never fall silent. It’s a woman thing. Talk or die.

The streets were far less congested than usual due to folks staying home. I do enjoy easy access to parking places. All clouds have silver linings.

Our mountaintop town has officially canceled Easter Week, known hereabouts as Semana Santa, and it’s a huge input of tourist cash.

Let’s move on now to bashing the Democrat Party. As you may know, Democrats blocked financial relief legislation from the White House because it came from Trump. Pelosi has a “better” solution, which is stuffed with unrelated pork.

Below is an interesting video from the ever-sharp libertarian John Stossel. It shows why there is a shortage of coronavirus tests in the United States.

Rules and regulations! President Trump promised to reduce rules and regulations, and he’s delivered in that department. But there is much more to be done, if something can be done, which I doubt. This is the problem with Big Government. The Democrat Party is the party of Big Government, of course. And “democratic” socialism!

Why anyone continues to support the Democrat Party, my former party, is beyond me. Their goofy, handsy, sniffy presidential candidate, for example, likely will not remember what position he’s running for when November rolls around. Sad.

Now roll it, Stossel!

UPDATE: China says it’s going to lift its quarantine on April 8 due to the situation stabilizing there. While I am skeptical of anything the Chinese government says, I would like to think this is the beginning of the end of the global scare. Let us pray so.

A quiet moment under the portales

PORTAL
Not a woman in sight.

BEFORE MOVING south, I used to listen to Dr. Laura on the radio in Houston, Texas. I found her very astute and no-nonsense. There’s always lots of nonsense going around, lots more now up there than when I lived in the United States.

Once she pointed out that it’s women who cause trouble in families, and men who cause trouble between nations. This is very true. Why is that?

What’s left of my family above the Rio Bravo consists of just two people, and both of them are women, a sister and a daughter.

My sister is impossible to relate to due to being a political fanatic of the feminist, lesbian, Bolshevik, anti-man variety. I admit some lesbians are nice people but, sadly, my sister is not one of them. She is so explosive that both our parents were afraid of her. They have since died, but I don’t think she had anything to do with that.

My daughter was just 5 years old when her mother and I parted. This, not to put too fine a point on it, is not a good thing for a 5-year-old. Making the situation worse, her mother and a new beau took off for Canada, hiding from the law, when my daughter was 8, not returning till she was 11.

Things have never been the same.

My daughter will be 52 next month. I  have not seen her in over 16 years. I’ve invited her and her husband to visit, but it never happens. My daughter is a woman. Her mother, who has influenced her greatly, is a woman too.

Dr. Laura was perceptive. I look around at my Mexican family now, and I see lots of conflict. It’s invariably the women who cause it. The guys just mind their own business.

I was thinking about this just before I snapped the photo above a couple of days ago. I was having a nice café Americano negro. I usually watch beautiful women walk by, but none were in sight. Maybe that’s why I thought about this issue with women causing family problems. I’m glad I’m a guy, but I cause no problems between nations or anywhere else.

Hula holidays

nosering

I SPOTTED THIS young woman downtown Saturday, across from the main plaza. She dances with Hula Hoops for handouts at traffic lights. It’s clever work.

I’ve seen her both here on the mountaintop and down the mountainside in the capital city. She gets around.

We’re geared up for the holidays. There’s a brief video below that I filmed on the same day. That occasional thump-thump sound comes from workmen off to the left who were building a wooden stage for a huge Nativity Scene.

We had a Christmas tree last year, same size, but it was green, a different material, and one afternoon a kid tossed a match onto it, and it burned to the ground.

I happened to be walking around the plaza when that happened. It was a sight to see. Quite a holiday bonfire. The city had it rebuilt, however, before Christmas day, and this year’s tree seems more fire-resistant.

The entire tree changes colors at night. Quite lovely.

Never a dull moment on the mountaintop, and we never lack for beautiful women either, some with Hula Hoops.
